Position is in Simsbury, CT. Travel requirement is approximately 20% - 30%.
_Purpose of Position_
The Product Manager role is a strategic role within Veeder-Root and provides individuals with cross-functional ownership of a specific group of products. In conjunction with the Director, the individual in this role is responsible for all aspects of the business including, e.g., driving the organic growth of the business through new product development/commercialization, existing product sales expansion, portfolio management, product roadmap strategy, pricing, effective sales force/channel initiatives, and Voice of Customer (VOC). The Product Manager will also monitor and drive global profitability. Close collaboration with regional leads outside of NA is required.
_Key Responsibilities_
In conjunction with the Director, the Product Manager will run the product group like a mini-business (sales, profitability, growth drivers, etc.):
Command of the business portfolio including products, revenue in whole and by products, pricing and profitability. Identify and execute actions within owned product lines. Actively and effectively manage existing portfolio including pricing, product phase-out, product enhancements, sales, margin, and forecasting. Drive global product revenue by actively participating in the creation of Sales Funnels to identify and drive growth globally. Responsible for ongoing analysis of product portfolio to understand issues and develop root cause and counter measures to drive performance. Work closely with regional marketing and sales organizations to implement countermeasures to ensure the growth of the business.
Drive gross margin improvement in the portfolio via cost reduction and pricing activities. Work closely with Operations and Engineering to develop cost reduction opportunities and utilize kaizen activities to improve our cost and quality position. Responsible for pricing activities and must understand global competitive activities and price elasticity.
Drive quality improvements by working closely with Operations and Engineering teams.
Complete competitive analysis and research - command of competitor's actions and recommended response.
Own Action Plan and Countermeasures related to Policy Deployment (PD), including driving to root cause, assisting / challenging countermeasures and action plans, etc. Develop the skills to lead a PD.
Lead new product development including: commercialization, life-cycle management, line extensions, and breakthroughs
Identify and deliver growth through new programs, enhancements to products, new markets, etc.
Gather VOC and prioritizing needs in price / performance on product lines. Focuses on future product requirements, both enhancements as well as breakthroughs.
Leadership in the creation, execution and analysis of VOC plans.
Leads commercialization of new products including: positioning, messaging, launch materials, value selling tools, channel marketing product launch promotions
Demonstrated ability to build business case for new products, product enhancements and other strategic investments by having a command of the key drivers and the sensitivity of the model to changes in the key drivers. Utilize the financial metrics to make business case decisions including NPV, ROI, and payback.
Lead and teach others in the creation of action plans for larger development projects to action plan commitments.

Leads people formally and informally

Demonstrates a sense of urgency and followership to deliver projects and revenue using resources beyond direct control to achieve results.
Teach others to use the Danaher Development System (DDS) and play a critical role reviewing tollgate documents. Proactively identify any issues preventing project advancement and coach the team through tollgate hurdles.

Execution of APD milestones on schedule through MS2B
Generation of VOC research plans

_Background and Skills_
The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of progressive marketing or business management experience in the petroleum industry. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to grow a business in global markets by working with a regionally managed global sales force, channel partners and end customers. An understanding of product line management and marketing concepts, and demonstrated competence in applying these principals to achieve business plan objectives is required. Bachelor's degree required, MBA highly desired but not required.
